ENGINE RETURNS TO 1000 RITCHIE RD

On Monday morning the engine was dispatched to 1000 Ritchie Rd for the AFA. Upon arrival, the crew found smoke showing from the delta side of the building and requested the box assignment for the building fire. The crew immediately stretched a hand line into the building and found large piles of trash on fire inside of the facility. This particular business is a recycling center and has a high level combustable materials such as cardboard being compacted on a 24 hour cycle. Two weeks ago we were at the same building for the structure fire after the compactor used to crush the cardboard caught fire. This building has also produced several AFA’s over the years and it would be very easy for this particular structure to be taken for granted and what you may find upon arrival. The crew was prepared and acted as a well prepared, knowledgable crew is supposed to. The fire was brought under control within minutes and units remained on the scene for about two hours performing overhaul.
