Just the summer heat was nearing its peak, Communications alerted units from the 1st & 3rd battalions for a reported apartment on fire in the 1900 blk of Rochell Ave. While units were responding, communications advised there were occupants jumping from balconies. Just like so many times, units arrived to find fire showing from a 2 in the front, 3 in the rear garden style apartment building (Common). Engine 371, dispatched as 4th due engine was immediately redirected to stretch a line to the interior and back up the 1st due engine company. Units encountered fire in an apartment with exposure to the floors above and into the roof line. Command held it with the working fire dispatch units for about 1 hour before units started to clear.
